Al-Khalidi: Candidacy for legislative elections begins on September 26, and the civil registry in Gaza is adopted

Jamil Al-Khalidi, the regional director of the Central Elections Committee in the Gaza Strip, revealed details of the ongoing preparations for holding the legislative elections. He announced that the candidacy phase will begin on September 26 and last for 12 days, at the committee's offices in the West Bank and its headquarters in Deir al-Balah in Gaza. Al-Khalidi explained that the committee is coordinating with the Ministry of Interior in Gaza to obtain an alternative electoral register, and it was agreed to provide it with the updated civil registry periodically, with sensitive data excluded. He pointed out that the candidate electoral lists will be able to review and amend the register, and object to names of deceased, martyrs, or travelers. Regarding those convicted in criminal cases, he clarified that the law prevents them from running and voting. He confirmed that the committee will rely on technology on election day to electronically verify voter data via handheld devices, to prevent double voting. He expected the number of voters to exceed 1.1 million. He noted obstacles, most notably the blockade, while the committee seeks to secure the requirements of the process from the local market.
