Mukhtars and Notables Demand Palestinian National Council Elections and Rebuilding of the PLO

Mukhtars and notables in the Gaza Strip called for elections to the Palestinian National Council as a fundamental step to reorganize the Palestinian house and renew PLO institutions, during the "Nabd Gaza" program held by "Filastin" newspaper. Participants emphasized the importance of national consensus and creating the necessary conditions for free and fair elections, while noting obstacles posed by the current situation in Gaza and the Israeli occupation.

Mukhtars and notables in the Gaza Strip demanded the necessity of holding elections for the Palestinian National Council, considering it a fundamental step to reorganize the Palestinian house and renew PLO institutions. This came during the "Nabd Gaza" program held by "Filastin" newspaper yesterday at its headquarters in Gaza City. Mukhtar of Gaza City, Abdul Karim Abu Shaaban, affirmed that families and clans are ready to contribute to providing a suitable atmosphere for holding the elections and securing them, expressing hope that they would be held in response to constitutional requirements. Mukhtar of the Sabra area, Muhammad al-Aymawi, saw that national and factional consensus could pave the way for holding legislative and presidential elections, warning that prioritizing personal and partisan interests might prevent that. He stressed the need to restructure and form the PLO. Meanwhile, Mukhtar of the Abu Sharia and Al-Hasayna families, Dr. Jadou' Abu Sharia, said the beginning should be with electing a national council from which the organization's leadership would emerge. Mukhtar of the Shuhaybir family, Nahid Shuhaybir, called for organizing the Palestinian house and reforming the organization and the presidency institution. Mukhtar of the Skik family, Jamil Skik, criticized "appointments" in the National Council, considering them a reflection of the quota system.
