US President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009. The Pentagon officially announced this on Tuesday, October 6. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended, and the president approved, the carrying out of the death sentence. The date and location of the execution will be determined later. The execution will be the first since 1961 carried out by the US military department itself, rather than the civilian judicial system. Hasan, a Muslim of Palestinian origin born in the US, committed the attack on November 5, 2009, opening fire on soldiers at Fort Hood base. He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others. In 2013, a military jury sentenced him to death. Hasan will be only the second person since 2010 whose firing squad sentence will be carried out.
