Dozens of bereaved families demand: "We will not allow a state commission of inquiry to be established"
Dozens of bereaved families from the Gevura Forum and the Din ve'Chesed Forum gathered in Jerusalem demanding the establishment of a national commission of inquiry, rather than a state one, to investigate the events of October 7. The families call on the Prime Minister to establish a committee that will investigate all systems without bias, and urge the public not to exploit the days of mourning for politics.
Dozens of bereaved families from the Gevura Forum and the Din ve'Chesed Forum gathered in Jerusalem at the Gevura encampment and presented a demand to the Prime Minister: to establish a national commission of inquiry, not a state one, to investigate the events of October 7, 2023. The families call for a committee that will investigate without bias all systems – military, security, political, and legal – with broad tools, necessary resources, and powers to recommend punishment and prosecution. Nahum Peri, one of the spokespersons, called on the public to raise the flag, be proud of the heroes, and promote unity, and not to exploit the days of mourning for politics. Cohen, another spokesperson, proposed a model of an equitable national commission of inquiry based on the model of the 9/11 commission in the US, and criticized elected officials who he said are cynically using the issue and declaring an intention to establish a commission of inquiry of Supreme Court judges, while erasing hundreds of families who do not believe in such a commission. The families call on the public to give their vote only to candidates who declare a commitment to establishing a national commission immediately after the elections.
