The Ministry of Health updated today (Sunday) on a suspected case of Ebola infection in Israel. A person who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo developed a fever after returning and was transferred to strict isolation at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer. Test results are expected during the day. The Ministry of Health emphasized that at this stage it is only a suspicion, and that the virus is not airborne but only transmitted through direct contact with a symptomatic patient or with bodily fluids. Concurrently, an epidemiological investigation is being conducted to identify relevant contacts. The Ministry noted that no confirmed case of Ebola has ever been diagnosed in Israel, and that since the outbreak began in Congo, systemic preparedness has been in place, including guidelines for medical teams and early detection measures for travelers. The public is asked to avoid travel to active outbreak areas, and returnees from Congo who develop symptoms within 21 days should contact the Kol Habriut hotline.
