Former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi revealed in a meeting with bereaved families held in recent weeks that during the crisis surrounding non-attendance for reserve duty, after the approval of the law to cancel the reasonableness clause, he proposed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to dismiss those who did not report for service. According to Halevi, Netanyahu firmly refused and said: "Absolutely not! This will bring a larger wave, don't do it." Halevi recounted that in a meeting with Netanyahu, he warned him that Israel is in a danger zone and asked him to issue a positive statement towards reservists and ask ministers to stop attacking them, but the Prime Minister did not agree. Halevi claimed that while Netanyahu publicly attacked the army and his conduct, behind closed doors he conveyed different messages: "On the podium, the Prime Minister spoke against me and against the army and our handling, but in the room he spoke completely differently." The Prime Minister's Office and Herzi Halevi's representatives chose not to comment.
