Looked for old records and found a painting worth $1.35 million

An American collector attended an estate sale in Michigan and purchased a small painting for $30. Months later, it turned out to be a lost work by artist Gertrude Abercrombie, which sold at auction for a record $1,352,600.

An American collector who went to an estate sale in Michigan in search of old records and furniture noticed a small painting in a dark corner. He paid just $30 for it. Months later, it turned out to be a lost work by surrealist artist Gertrude Abercrombie, who painted it in 1951. The painting, 'Alderman Merriam's Shells', measuring 20 by 28 centimeters, was originally estimated at $150,000 to $250,000. At a Freeman's auction, it sold for $1,352,600, more than five times the high estimate, setting a new world record for a work by Abercrombie.
