Waldman explained why he attended the Simchat Torah event near the massacre site in Re'im, saying the participants are "my brothers," even if their views are opposite to his. He described the difficult identification moments: "I found the car where they were murdered on Route 232. It was full of blood... My ex-wife asked me to make sure it was Daniel. I was terribly afraid to do it." Waldman also addressed criticism from other bereaved families about holding the event, saying he is in favor of inclusion and letting people live, as long as they do not harm each other.
