Eisenkot's first appointment: who will head the influential Knesset committee

Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot appointed faction chairman Roi Folkman as head of the Knesset Organizational Committee. This is Eisenkot's first appointment after receiving the mandate to form a government from President Isaac Herzog on the evening of November 8. The appointment makes Folkman one of the key figures for the coming month — during coalition negotiations. The Organizational Committee determines the composition of permanent committees and can create temporary ones, including the Finance Committee and the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Folkman, a 51-year-old politician first elected to the Knesset in 2015 from the Kulanu party, refused to join Likud during the merger in 2019. Eisenkot stated that Israeli democracy is going through a vulnerable moment and called on lawmakers to compromise.
