Council member and Jerusalem activist Fakhri Abu Diab stated that the groups have begun preparations to establish the synagogue in the eastern corner of the mosque, targeting an area estimated at about five dunams. He explained that the eastern region has seen an increase in Talmudic rituals, including group prayers and shofar blowing, alongside measures by the occupation police that included setting up tents. Abu Diab warned that establishing the synagogue represents a practical step towards carving out a part of the mosque, noting that the groups are exploiting regional circumstances and the rise of the extreme Israeli right to accelerate their plans. According to Jerusalem sources, the moves are led by figures including former occupation officer Uri Ohayon, through calls on social media under the title 'Gates of Mercy, open for us.' Jerusalem institutions and official Palestinian bodies affirm that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunams, is a pure Islamic place of worship, warning against attempts to impose a new religious reality within it.
