US redirects millions of dollars in military aid from Europe to Latin America

The US administration has decided to redirect tens of millions of dollars in military aid originally intended for countries in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa to conservative-leaning governments in Central and South America. The State Department notified Congress that $52 million from the Foreign Military Financing program will be reallocated from Slovakia, North Macedonia, Tunisia, and Iraq to Panama, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru and promised them additional support in combating drug trafficking and illegal migration.
