UN presents new claims against Israel - what this time
The UN accused Israel of violations in Syria, including shooting at civilians and ill-treatment of detainees. The report particularly highlights the incident involving the death of a 22-year-old Palestinian near El-Hamidiya. The IDF presented a different version, claiming that the troops gave warnings before opening fire. The UN demands an investigation.
The UN has issued new accusations against Israel related to the actions of the IDF on Syrian territory. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights claims that Israeli troops restrict the movement of local residents, carry out detentions and use force against the civilian population. The report lists alleged violations, including cases of shooting at civilians and ill-treatment of detainees. Particular attention is given to the death of a 22-year-old man near the settlement of El-Hamidiya. According to the UN account, the young man found himself at night in unfamiliar terrain and did not know that Israeli military positions lay ahead. Representatives of the organisation stated that they have no information about warning shots. The IDF presented a different picture: the troops noticed a person who approached the fence and began climbing an earthen embankment. The troops demanded that he stop and warned of possible gunfire, but the unknown person continued moving. It later emerged that the deceased was a 22-year-old Palestinian from Damascus. The UN demands a prompt and impartial investigation of the incidents and calls on Israel to stop actions which, in its assessment, lead to the intimidation of residents of Syrian villages. The UN statement hardly addresses circumstances related to ensuring the security of Israeli servicemen and border areas.
