US Vice President JD Vance is gradually strengthening his political position ahead of the 2028 presidential campaign, but the midterm congressional elections could complicate his plans. Republicans face a fight to keep their majority amid discontent with Donald Trump's policies, the war with Iran and rising living costs. This is reported by WION, citing AFP. On October 9, Vance visited his home state of Ohio, where he took part in an event in support of Republican candidates. His appearance looked more like a campaign rally for the vice president himself: among supporters was a woman in a cap reading "Vance 2028." Vance has not officially announced his intention to run and said the results of the elections in Ohio are not connected to his plans for 2028. The midterm elections will be held on November 3. According to polls, Republicans could lose their majority in Congress. Ohio is of particular importance, having backed Trump in the last three presidential elections: there is a race for a Senate seat previously held by Vance and now belonging to Jon Husted, and among the gubernatorial candidates is Vivek Ramaswamy. Vance is seen as one of the main potential Republican candidates in 2028. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he does not intend to compete with him for the nomination. Vance is expanding his ties in the party and taking part in fundraising as chairman of the finance committee of the Republican National Committee, while distancing himself from Trump's unpopular decisions.
