The Northern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment in the Nazareth District Court against Mahmoud Faour (25) and Mahdi Abu Samara (23), residents of Uzeir, for shooting at a residential home in the village and subsequently firing at police officers who chased them. According to the indictment, about five weeks ago, the two conspired with another person to harm a village resident. They equipped themselves with an M16 rifle and bullets, wore gloves and covered their faces, and removed license plates from their vehicle. Around 11:30 PM, they arrived at the resident's home and opened heavy fire, damaging the front door and vehicles in the yard. Officers in the area heard the shooting and began a pursuit. The chase moved to Highway 77, where the suspects aimed the rifle at the police car and opened fire at close range. The officers exited the vehicle under fire and returned fire. The suspects fled on foot and abandoned the vehicle in a wooded area near water reservoirs. DNA evidence on a hat and gloves, matching M16 shell casings at both scenes, location data from Faour's phone, and WhatsApp messages led to their arrest two days later in a hideout apartment in Ramat Gan. Northern District Commander, Superintendent Meir Eliyahu, praised the officers and said that shooting at police officers is "crossing a bright red line."
