National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his "Jewish Power" party are leading efforts to apply the law for the first time, demanding the military prosecution not settle for life imprisonment.

Hebrew media revealed political pressure being exerted by the Israeli occupation government to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoner Qadri Samara, accused of carrying out an operation near the "Halamish" settlement, in a step reflecting the efforts of Israeli right-wing currents to use the new legislation concerning the execution of Palestinian prisoners. The Hebrew channel "Kan" reported that ministers in Benjamin Netanyahu's government are insisting on trying Samara under the new law approved by the Knesset in March 2026, amid moves led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his "Jewish Power" party to push for its first application. The party is demanding that the military prosecution not settle for a life sentence, and insist on imposing the death penalty by hanging. Occupation forces had arrested Samara from inside a hospital in the city of Ramallah about three weeks ago, while his home in the outskirts of occupied Jerusalem was demolished two days ago. The law allows military courts to issue death sentences against Palestinians from the occupied West Bank in specific cases, and sets a mechanism for carrying out the penalty by hanging.
