WhatsApp chats allegedly leaked from hacked phone of Urich
Hackers published personal WhatsApp correspondence of Yonatan Urich, an adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after his account was breached. The breach apparently stemmed from linking his account to an external service based in Dubai, and from exposing the code of a communications monitoring system he built for the prime minister and his wife. The hackers threaten to publish more.
Hackers today (Sunday) published personal correspondence of Yonatan Urich, an adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in Telegram and WhatsApp groups. The publication comes about two weeks after it was revealed that Urich had connected his personal WhatsApp account to an external service operated from the United Arab Emirates. The hackers threaten to publish further correspondence later. The breach apparently resulted from a chain of failures: Urich built an AI-based communications monitoring system for the prime minister and his wife, and left the system's code exposed online, including sensitive access details. In addition, he connected his personal WhatsApp account to a service of a company from Dubai, which received unencrypted access to his correspondence. Due to local laws in the United Arab Emirates, the correspondence could also have been accessible to local authorities without a court order. No response was received from Urich's office.
