Two Maldivian first officers from Flydubai were detained on suspicion that they coordinated with the terrorist pilot, al-Mahami, their assignment on flights to Israel. According to the Maldivian embassy in the United Arab Emirates, an additional suspicion is being examined that al-Mahami helped the two get hired at the company. The two have been held in detention for 12 days, and are prevented from contacting their families and from meeting with their lawyers. The embassy representatives' access to them is limited. Last week the embassy updated the families of two additional first officers at the company about their detention. The two knew al-Mahami through their work and apparently lived in proximity to him. About two weeks have passed since the attempted attack on the Flydubai plane. The investigation reveals that al-Mahami lived for an extended period in Melbourne, Australia, where he underwent a systematic radicalization process at a community center and a local mosque, which according to the report operated in affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood movement.
