Syria and Jordan agree to form a joint security committee to investigate the details of recent events
The Syrian and Jordanian foreign ministers agreed to form a joint security committee to investigate recent operations and develop field and intelligence coordination, following Jordanian airstrikes on ISIS positions in southern Syria.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi agreed during a phone call on Tuesday evening to form a joint security committee to investigate the details of recent operations and follow up on their repercussions, and to develop mechanisms for field and intelligence coordination to confront terrorist threats. The call came after Jordan announced the killing of more than 20 ISIS militants in airstrikes on southern Syria on Monday evening, in response to an armed attack on a church in Karak Governorate that killed nine people. Safadi affirmed Jordan's respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing regret for civilian casualties during the strikes targeting ISIS positions. The Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs also announced the resumption of passenger and trade movement through the Nasib border crossing as of Wednesday morning, October 28, after a one-day closure.
