Settlers attack the village of Burqa east of Ramallah from three directions

On Saturday, settlers attacked the village of Burqa east of Ramallah from three directions, targeting Palestinian homes and property. The attack included an attempt to set a house on fire, as well as assaulting and spraying gas on an elderly resident. The attack comes amid a surge in settler violence in the West Bank, with a total of 4,914 attacks since the beginning of 2026.

On Saturday, settlers attacked the village of Burqa east of Ramallah from three directions in a wide-ranging assault targeting Palestinian homes and property. The attack began from the southern side of the village, where settlers targeted homes and the village council building with slingshots. It spread to the western side, where they attempted to set a house on fire while a family was inside, and set fire to a garbage container belonging to another home. On the northern side, settlers assaulted an elderly Palestinian man as he was heading to the Burqa mosque for the noon prayer, beating him and spraying him with gas before he was taken to a hospital in Ramallah. The attack comes amid escalating settler violence in the West Bank. According to data from the Palestinian Authority's Commission of Resistance to the Wall and Settlements, settlers carried out 628 attacks in August, concentrated in the governorates of Ramallah and al-Bireh, Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem, Tubas, Jenin, and Jerusalem. These attacks harmed 164 Palestinians, including 20 children and 17 women. The total number of settler attacks since the beginning of 2026 until the end of August has reached 4,914, an increase of 63% compared to the same period in 2025. The village of Burqa and surrounding areas have experienced repeated attacks in conjunction with the expansion of the outpost on Tel al-Asur.
