The local planning committee in Haifa approved advancing a plan to expand Rambam Medical Center, increasing beds from 976 to about 1,875 and adding medical buildings, research centers, a patient hotel, and an underground ER entrance.

The Haifa Local Planning and Building Committee approved this evening (Monday) the advancement of the plan to expand the Rambam Medical Center in the city. Under the plan, promoted by the Israel Land Authority, the number of hospital beds is expected to grow from 976 today to approximately 1,875 by the target year. The plan includes adding about 5.7 dunams west of the complex, bringing its total area to about 101 dunams. Additional areas will be added for clinics, research institutes, laboratories, training centers for medical staff, a patient hotel for patients and their families, and parking areas. An underground entrance from HaYil HaYam Street leading directly to the emergency room is also planned, and the plan regulates an existing helipad and allows for the construction of an additional helipad on the roof of one of the buildings. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav welcomed the advancement of the plan and said that Rambam is a strategic asset for Haifa, the north, and the State of Israel. Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Subcommittee for Planning and Construction, Sarit Golan, said the plan will allow the hospital to prepare for the needs of the healthcare system in the coming years.
