Ben-Gvir petitions High Court to lift protest ban, accuses police chief of seeking violence
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir filed an urgent petition to the High Court of Justice to cancel an order barring him from intervening in protests, alleging Police Commissioner Danny Levi instructed forces to use severe violence against Haredi protesters, quoting him as saying 'I want to see blood.'
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir filed an urgent petition to the High Court of Justice this morning (Monday) to cancel the interim order barring him from intervening in protests. In the petition, the minister reveals serious allegations against Police Commissioner Danny Levy, including that he instructed forces to use severe violence against Haredi protesters and was quoted as saying 'wants to see blood'. It is further alleged that the commissioner directly contacted officers in the field, ordered the use of batons and stun grenades before the protests began, removed district commanders from their positions without the minister's approval and in violation of the law, was absent from situational assessments, and flew abroad without updating. The minister points to selective enforcement between Haredi protesters and left-wing protesters and warns that the conduct endangers human life. The minister demands that the High Court cancel the order urgently so that he can curb police violence.
