The Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel published inflation data for August 2026. The consumer price index rose by 0.7%, reaching 105.8 points. Since the beginning of the year, prices have risen by an average of 2.1%, with annual inflation at 1.5%. The most notable jump occurred in the fresh vegetable market — a 2.9% increase for the month. Transport rose by 2.7%, culture and entertainment by 2%, and housing by 0.6%. Meanwhile, fresh fruit fell by 2%, clothing by 0.8%, food overall by 0.5%, and furniture and household goods by 0.3%. The author emphasizes that official inflation does not always match the experience of a specific family: a household spending a significant portion of its budget on transport, housing, and fresh vegetables could face a much more noticeable increase in expenses. Inflation excluding vegetables and fruit also stood at 0.7%, excluding energy at 0.6%. The author warns that if the rise in prices for transport, housing, and other everyday expenses continues, the officially low annual inflation may increasingly diverge from citizens' actual bills.
