American Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint passed away yesterday (Tuesday) at a ripe old age at her home in Los Angeles. Saint was 102 at the time of her death. Her acting career spanned about six decades, beginning in radio and television in the late 1940s. Her professional breakthrough came in 1954 when she starred in Elia Kazan's film 'On the Waterfront' alongside Marlon Brando. For this role, which was her film debut, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 1959, Saint played one of her most famous roles as agent Eve Kendall in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller 'North by Northwest', alongside Cary Grant. During the 1960s, she participated in other notable projects, including the film 'Exodus' alongside Paul Newman, which deals with the establishment of the State of Israel, 'The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming', and 'The Grand Prix'. From the 1970s, Saint focused mainly on television work and TV movies. In 1990, she won an Emmy Award for her role in the miniseries 'People Like Us'. In the 2000s, she returned to the big screen in supporting roles, including the character of Martha Kent in the 2006 film 'Superman Returns'. Her last film appearance was in 2014 in 'Winter's Tale'. Saint was married to director Jeffrey Hayden from 1951 until his death in 2016. She is survived by two children.
