Michal Negri to 'Post': My son took responsibility on Oct. 7, our leaders must too - interview
Michal Negri, whose son Maj. (res.) Roee Negri was killed on October 7, calls on Israeli leaders to take responsibility for the failures of that day. Now running for Knesset with Naftali Bennett's B'Yachad party, she argues that anyone in government on October 7 should have stepped down three years ago and demands a state commission of inquiry.
Michal Negri, a former director-general of the Ra'anana Municipality whose son Maj. (res.) Roee Negri was killed fighting Hamas terrorists in Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7, calls on Israel's political leadership to take responsibility for the failures of that day. In an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Negri draws a direct parallel between her son's actions and what she expects from leaders: "Like my son, hundreds [of civilians] that day just took responsibility [and action]. They were brave, they were responsible, and they were leaders. And I expect the [Israeli] leadership to act in the same way." Negri is now running for Knesset in the seventh slot on the B'Yachad list led by former prime minister Naftali Bennett ahead of the October 27 elections. She says Netanyahu should have stepped down immediately after the attacks and that anyone in government on October 7 "should have stepped down three years ago." She criticizes Netanyahu's push for a political probe into October 7 as an attempt to avoid responsibility and "set the fire to anyone else but them." Negri calls the upcoming elections "crucial" and says the country needs "a leadership that sees the people" rather than one that "works for itself." Three years after the massacre, no state commission of inquiry has been established.
