Israeli woman demands millions from former partner after breakup
A woman who lived in a common-law marriage with a man for 17 years demanded half of a 3.69 million shekel insurance payout he received after a car accident. The Haifa Family Court ruled that the man is not obligated to share this sum, as the payment was received after the separation and he had no prior knowledge of it.
A woman who lived in a common-law marriage with a man for 17 years and raised three children with him demanded half of a 3.69 million shekel insurance payout he received after a severe car accident. The man, who worked in high-tech, was in an accident about ten years ago, after which he could not return to work and lives on insurance payments. He received the first payout of 1 million shekels while the couple was still together and deposited the money into a joint account. He received the second payout of 3.69 million shekels after the separation. The judge, deputy president of the Haifa Family Court, ruled that the man did not intend to share the second payout and is not obligated to give a portion to his former partner. The judge considered that the woman had already benefited from the division of the first payout, and that the man is in a difficult psychological state, does not see his children, and requires long-term rehabilitation. The court also ordered an expert to account for 90,000 shekels that the woman transferred to herself after leaving the home when calculating the property balance.
