The annual conference of the Israeli Stroke Society is taking place today (Thursday) in Tel Aviv, in collaboration with the Diabetes Committee of the Endocrine Association. The discussions focus on the connection between diabetes and brain health, advanced treatments to prevent complications, and ways to reduce cognitive impairment. Diabetes is a known risk factor for stroke; prolonged high blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels. The conference program includes a session on drugs from the GLP-1 receptor agonist family, as well as a discussion on treatments that act on the SGLT mechanism. Later, Prof. Tali Zuckerman-Yaffe is scheduled to give a lecture on preventing vascular dementia among stroke patients with diabetes. Alongside the focus on diabetes, the conference program includes lectures on TNK – tenecteplase, a drug for dissolving blood clots, and on the importance of Factor XIa inhibitors in stroke prevention. The article also details the warning signs of stroke and calls for immediately calling MDA upon their appearance. The article reports on the conference program and does not present new findings or a change in guidelines.
