Israeli Ambassador to Thailand: "They are blowing a fuss around our tourists"

Israeli Ambassador to Thailand, Dr. Alona Fisher-Kam, stated that a fuss is being deliberately blown around Israeli tourists using fake news and old posts. She acknowledged that the behavior of some Israelis causes problems but noted that overall they break the law no more than others. The ambassador also linked the protests at the embassy to anti-Semitic slogans and attempts to tie the Middle East conflict to tourists.

Israeli Ambassador to Thailand, Dr. Alona Fisher-Kam, stated that a fuss is being deliberately blown around Israeli tourists. In an interview with Ynet on Tuesday, September 15, following a protest at the embassy and the publication of a poll according to which 77% of Thai citizens have encountered inappropriate behavior by Israelis, the ambassador acknowledged the existence of a serious problem. She noted that Israelis start quarrels and make noise at night, but overall they break the law no more than tourists from other countries. Fisher-Kam emphasized that the fuss is being deliberately blown using fake news and reposts of old messages, and that certain forces are behind this phenomenon. Commenting on the demonstration at the embassy, she pointed to anti-Semitic slogans and chants of "Free Palestine!" which, in her opinion, go beyond demands about tourist behavior. The ambassador also noted that after the protest, local journalists began linking the Middle East conflict to the treatment of Israeli tourists. She called on Israelis to respect local culture and obey the laws, noting that Thai authorities do not support calls to ban entry for Israelis and understand the benefit of their presence.
