In an interview with "Arab 48", Jerusalemite researcher Munir Qleibo discusses the repercussions of the war on Gaza on Jerusalem's economy, highlighting the deepening of economic and social crises, the exacerbation of dependency on the Israeli market, and the acceleration of the economic Israelization process under occupation policies. Qleibo points out that the occupation has turned Jerusalem into a city without economic sovereignty, operating within a dual legal and administrative system, subject to Israeli taxes and planning, while being deprived of the tools of Palestinian national economic policy. This duality has, over decades, produced a fragile economy that has turned into a detained economy with the war, while the years of war and its repercussions have exacerbated crises of unemployment, housing, and education, reaching unprecedented levels. Qleibo asserts that he does not see economic Israelization in Jerusalem as a voluntary integration into an equal market, but rather a forced restructuring of the conditions of work, production, and consumption, making the Israeli market the governing, and sometimes only, framework for generating income, against a continuous erosion of local Palestinian sectors within the city.
