Karl Bushby returns to Hull after 28-year walk around the world

British adventurer Karl Bushby completed a 28-year, approximately 50,000 km walk around the world, returning to his hometown of Hull, England. He was greeted by supporters and family, including his granddaughter.

British adventurer Karl Bushby, 57, completed today (Monday) a 28-year walk around the world, crossing the Humber Bridge into Hull, northern England. Bushby set out on November 1, 1998, from the southern tip of Chile, covering about 50,000 kilometers across four continents. He was greeted with cheers by residents and family members, including his parents, his 36-year-old son Adam, and his 12-year-old granddaughter whom he met for the first time. "I'm just completely stunned," he told the BBC. "I'm just a homeless guy pushing a shopping cart, and suddenly this happens." The final leg of the journey included swimming across the Caspian Sea in 2024 and crossing the English Channel last October. Bushby, a former paratrooper, set himself two rules: not to use any vehicles and not to return home until the journey was complete. Over the years, he was detained in Russia and delayed by visa restrictions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and wars.
