A jeep trip at Nahal Nekarot in the southern Negev ended in tragedy after a hiker got out of his vehicle to guide his wife as she reversed, and was run over to death. The incident occurred yesterday (Saturday). The hiker and his wife were with several other couples on the trip. The route in the wadi had changed drastically due to floods, including an especially strong flood that flowed through the channel last Tuesday, the likes of which had not been seen in the area for many years. Visibility was limited due to the debris left by the flood, and part of the trail was completely destroyed. One of the vehicles got stuck on a high rock; the driver got out and guided his wife from behind. For an unclear reason, the driver pressed the accelerator in reverse, the vehicle hit the man and remained on top of him. A hiker with a satellite communication device contacted the Ramat Negev rescue unit. Due to the distance and time, Unit 669 was activated and arrived by helicopter. The unit's soldiers and the hikers freed the man from under the vehicle, but his death was declared at the scene. An investigation has been opened.
