Continued Israeli attacks worsen the displacement crisis in Gaza
The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is worsening as Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement continue, through the demolition of homes, shelling, and gunfire, affecting displacement tents and shelters. Various areas witnessed a field escalation on Sunday, and a displaced person was killed in the central Strip. The UN warns that about 950,000 displaced people are in flood-prone locations.
The humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip is worsening as Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement continue, through the demolition of homes, artillery shelling, and gunfire from military vehicles and drones, affecting residential areas, displacement tents, and shelters, causing deaths and injuries. Various areas witnessed a field escalation on Sunday, including gunfire and shelling in the eastern areas of Gaza City, the vicinity of Kamal Adwan Hospital, and west of Beit Lahia, in addition to targeting the eastern areas of Hamad City north of Khan Younis, and low-altitude flights of drones and reconnaissance aircraft in the southern and eastern parts of the governorate. In the central Strip, a displaced person died from injuries sustained during a previous Israeli incursion in the village of Al-Masdar east of Deir al-Balah, while attacks continue despite 388 days having passed since the agreement came into effect. The repercussions of the ongoing war are not limited to human losses and destruction, as the displacement crisis worsens with the approach of winter, with hundreds of thousands of families forced to live in worn-out tents and damaged housing lacking minimum protection standards. The UN warned that about 950,000 displaced people are living in locations at risk of flooding, including more than 400,000 in high-risk sites, while about 1.98 million people need shelter and basic material assistance. The risks are exacerbated by restrictions on the entry of shelter supplies, equipment, and spare parts, along with funding shortages, hindering the repair of drainage and sewage networks.
