In Lebanon, fear of a third round of war with Israel is growing, despite Hezbollah's promises not to join a new conflict that could break out between Iran, the US, and Israel, according to a report by the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. President Joseph Aoun finds it difficult to rely on these promises, having received similar assurances before the last round of war in March, when the organization reneged and joined the fighting following the assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, talks between Lebanon and Israel remain without a new date for a round of negotiations, and the US midterm elections and the lack of a decision in Israel's elections are delaying progress. The dispute concerns the identity of the body that will ensure that the areas selected for the weapons removal test are indeed free of weapons. Israel proposes assigning the task to non-governmental organizations, and Lebanon opposes this. President Aoun clarified that the Lebanese army's refusal to open a direct channel of communication with the IDF stems from his order, as long as Israel holds Lebanese territory and continues its strikes. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Aoun of devastating consequences if Hezbollah intervenes.
