Hamas held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of prisoner Mu'taz al-Atrash Abu Snineh inside its prisons, considering his death a new crime added to the series of crimes against Palestinian prisoners. The movement stated in a statement that Abu Snineh, along with other prisoners, was subjected to torture, humiliation, deprivation, and medical neglect, calling for a broad national, official, popular, and rights-based movement to support prisoners and pressure to stop violations against them. Hamas called on Palestinians to continue activities in support of prisoners and their families, affirming its continued efforts to secure the release of prisoners. This comes amid a rise in the number of martyrs of the prisoner movement since the start of the war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. The Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority had reported on August 9 that the number of martyrs of the prisoner movement whose identities have been documented since 1967 reached 328, including 91 since the start of the war on Gaza, among them 53 prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
