Got breast cancer? These are the rights that could save you money | Maariv guide

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a Maariv guide with attorney Shari Dvir explains what financial rights may be available to patients from the National Insurance Institute, pension funds, and insurance companies, including disability benefits, nursing care, critical illness insurance, and income tax exemption.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Maariv publishes a guide to financial rights for women dealing with the disease. The article speaks with attorney Shari Dvir, who specializes in tort law, and explains what rights may be available to patients from the National Insurance Institute, pension funds, and insurance companies. The first step is compiling a document file including biopsy results, an oncological summary, a treatment plan, and a list of medications. Dvir emphasizes that the impact on functioning should be described, not just the diagnosis. Eligibility for a general disability benefit from the National Insurance Institute can be checked, where women with breast cancer may receive recognition of 100% medical disability for one year. Additionally, eligibility for a nursing care benefit should be checked if assistance with daily activities is needed. At the same time, it is advisable to inquire about coverage from the pension fund and insurance companies, including critical illness insurance and loss of work capacity. Continuing to work does not preclude the possibility of an income tax exemption, which is assessed based on the rate of medical disability. The article recommends following the decisions and checking appeal options in case of rejection.
