Film about Musk's life faces advertising restrictions from "TikTok", "X", and "YouTube"
The documentary 'Musk' about Elon Musk's life faced advertising restrictions from TikTok, X, and YouTube. TikTok later reinstated the film's advertising account after an error, while distributor 'Bleecker Street' prepares to expand its release from 4 theaters to over 470 screens in North America.
TikTok announced the reinstatement of the advertising account for the documentary 'Musk', which critically examines the life of businessman Elon Musk, after previously informing the American distribution company 'Bleecker Street' of a permanent suspension due to violations related to political content policies. The reversal came after an error, according to a report by TechCrunch published on Saturday, October 17. The film, which runs about four hours and was directed by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney, faced similar difficulties in promotion on Meta, YouTube, and X platforms. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Bleecker Street received a notification from TikTok that its advertising account had violated political content policies, preventing it from purchasing new ads at a time when it was preparing to expand the film's release from four theaters to over 470 screens in North America. The distribution company expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of the decision, especially since advertising campaigns are one of the primary means of promoting films when transitioning from limited screenings to wide distribution.
