The Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court sentenced Dr. Muhammad Azzam, a doctor who worked at Soroka Medical Center, to 27 months in actual prison after he was convicted of membership in the terrorist organization ISIS. According to the verdict, Azzam underwent a years-long ideological radicalization process, pledged allegiance to the organization's leader after the October 7 massacre, and possessed guides for making explosives and poisons on his devices. Judge Shosh Shitrit determined that from 2014 until his arrest in July 2024, Azzam systematically consumed ISIS propaganda content, and that after the oath of allegiance, his conduct further radicalized. The sentence emphasized the severity of the case, particularly given his role as a doctor in a public hospital where wounded civilians and soldiers were treated. The prosecution sought a lengthy prison term. In addition to the prison sentence, 12 months of probation and a fine of 15,000 shekels were imposed. Azzam's details were forwarded to the Ministry of Health for review of his medical license.
