Al-Ittihad newspaper published a statement by Palestinian feminists and activists denouncing the statements of journalist Ayala Hasson in the newspaper 'Maariv', in which she described Bedouin women in the Negev as 'Bedouin women in the Negev, wearing niqab, and mostly abused women'. The signatories see these statements as an extension of an arrogant and racist discourse targeting Palestinian women in general, and veiled and niqab-wearing women in particular. They affirm that these statements strip Bedouin women of their right to political participation and strip them of their identity as citizens and active agents. They demand that 'Maariv' take its professional and ethical responsibility and stop providing a platform for inciting speech. The statement is signed by feminist and human rights organizations and individual activists.
