Yaari Lieberman, a yeshiva student from Modiin defined as a deserter, was arrested today (Sunday) by military police as he got off a bus with his bride on their way to a sheva brachot celebration. The officers who carried out the arrest did not identify themselves, and his shocked wife called the police and reported a kidnapping. About a month ago, military police forces came to his home in an attempt to arrest him, but the arrest was prevented after hundreds of protesters, summoned via the emergency hotline "Black Color," arrived at the scene. The Shas faction condemned the "brutal arrest" of the groom and called for his immediate release. MK Meir Porush said that "the criminal conduct of the military police... should shock every Jew" and called on the authorities "to be attentive to the Jewish heart and release the groom immediately." MK Yitzhak Goldknopf attacked the arrest, calling it "a new low in the witch hunt against Torah scholars" and "a stain on a Jewish state."
