At a conference of senior left-camp figures held in Jerusalem at the Smadar cinema, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak presented scenarios according to which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or his people would act to disrupt the elections. Among other things, Barak claimed that Netanyahu or his circle would bribe family members of opposition Knesset members with millions of shekels, and hinted that this had happened in the cases of Idit Silman and Amichai Chikli. According to him, Netanyahu or his people had in the past sent criminal elements to break into his pollster's office in the 1999 elections, Stanley Greenberg, and would not refrain from crimes now either – including sending people to break into the Knesset on election day and set ballot papers on fire. The conference was also attended by Bogi Ya'alon, senior figures in the "Brothers in Arms" movement and a retired judge. Barak and his associates founded a group of left-wing activists called "Hagdud Ha'ivri", meant to act on election day and after it in order to prevent what they call the theft of the elections and the establishment of a dictatorship. The conference organizer, Prof. Yoram Yuval, described a plan to block the Prime Minister from his residence on the day he does not accept the election results. At the end of the conference the participants signed a public declaration, written by Adv. Gilad Sher, according to which they would be ready to block the Prime Minister's residence. The article presents these things as a scare campaign and the spreading of conspiracy theories, and raises the question of whether Barak will receive the opposite result.
