Trump found himself in an election trap - Iran will no longer help

A poll conducted by Politico and PF Global showed that even potential successes of the Trump administration — ending the war with Iran, lowering gasoline prices and inflation — do not guarantee the Republican Party support in the midterm elections. Among Democrats and undecided voters, only 9-12% would be more inclined to vote for Republicans under any of these scenarios. A significant portion of respondents would not change their decision or were unsure.

A new poll conducted by Politico together with PF Global showed that US President Donald Trump and the Republican Party face a serious political problem ahead of the midterm elections to Congress. Researchers asked respondents to evaluate three hypothetical scenarios: ending the war with Iran, lowering the price of gasoline by one dollar per gallon, and inflation falling to a five-year low. The results were unfavorable for Republicans. If Trump announced the end of the war with Iran, only 10% of Democratic Party supporters would be more inclined to vote for Republicans, 46% said it would not affect their decision, and 36% reported they would be even less inclined to support the Republican Party. Among undecided voters, only 9% admitted this would increase the likelihood of their voting for Republicans, while 55% were unsure. Similar results were obtained when assessing lower gasoline prices and inflation. The poll was conducted from October 3 to 5 among 2,001 adult US residents. The margin of error is 2.2 percentage points. The author of the material is Tomer Adoni.
