Egypt condemned the incursion of hundreds of settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of efforts to change the historical and legal status quo. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry considered the incursions a violation and provocation, and stressed the need to preserve the status quo to avoid inflaming tensions.
The Arab Republic of Egypt, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the incursion of hundreds of settlers into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, along with accompanying provocative practices and the performance of religious rituals within its courtyards. Egypt warned, in a press statement on Thursday, of efforts to change the historical and legal status quo at the mosque. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry considered these incursions a violation of the status quo, coming within a broader context of rejected settlement activities and statements. It stressed the necessity of preserving the historical and legal status of holy sites in Jerusalem and safeguarding the religious status of Al-Aqsa Mosque, affirming that maintaining existing arrangements is a fundamental pillar to avoid inflaming tensions. It warned that the repetition of these violations represents a systematic policy that evades forms of deterrence or accountability, considering that this exacerbates the state of tension and threatens security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territories and the region.
