Economists' warning: The price of Jewish terror will be paid by all Israelis
More than 60 senior economists, including a former Bank of Israel governor, warn that international sanctions against settlements could expand to the entire Israeli economy and worsen the cost of living. The letter was published amid an escalation in settler violence.
More than 60 economists, including former Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Jacob Frenkel and former Finance Ministry directors general, warn in a letter published today (Sunday) that international sanctions against settlements could expand to the entire Israeli economy. The economists, members of the Economists' Forum for Democracy, argue that construction in Area E1 and the failure to prevent violence and Jewish terror carry a heavy economic price that will be paid by all Israeli residents. The letter comes amid an escalation in settler violence over the weekend. According to the letter, about 100 sanctions are imposed by more than 50 countries, and the UN blacklist has been expanded to 214 companies, including all Israeli banks and Tnuva. The economists warn that the worsening due to sanctions will be worse than the current cost-of-living problem. Signatories also include Prof. Zvika Eckstein, Prof. Avia Spivak, Yair Avidan, Prof. Avraham Ben Basat, Yariv Ariav, and Ella Alkaly.
