The central section of Highway 60 between Gush Etzion and Jerusalem will partially open to traffic tonight (Sunday), and fully by the end of the week. This is a roughly 2-kilometer stretch, joining the northern and southern sections that have already been opened. The project, estimated to cost about 490 million shekels, is being carried out by Moriah Company for the Ministry of Transportation. The opening of this section is expected to resolve a significant bottleneck on a route used by tens of thousands of drivers daily between Gush Etzion and the Hebron Hills to Jerusalem, and to improve safety and security on the road. As part of the project, upgrades to the Efrat North junction and the sinking of the Shayerot junction are also being advanced, with the latter expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.
