Cross-party support: 'Homes for Fighters' project unites the political system
The 'Homes for Fighters' project is gaining cross-party support, aiming to provide housing for reserve soldiers. The pilot in Kibbutz Holit near the Gaza border is already underway, and the national covenant includes tax exemptions and grants.
The 'Homes for Fighters' project is successfully uniting representatives from different parties around a common goal: providing housing solutions for reserve soldiers and their families. According to project leaders, about 80% of the parties they approached expressed support. Supporters include Gadi Eisenkot (Yashar), Naftali Bennett (Together), Yoaz Hendel (The Reservists and the Economic Party), Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beiteinu), Yinon Azoulay (Shas), Ofer Winter (Amcha Yisrael), Itamar Ben Gvir (Otzma Yehudit), and Moshe Feiglin (Zehut). The pilot is already underway with families of reserve soldiers moving to Kibbutz Holit in the Gaza border area, as part of the kibbutz's rehabilitation process following the October 7 attack. At the center of the project is a national covenant for Knesset candidates, including proposals for VAT and purchase tax exemptions on new apartments up to 2 million shekels, a grant of up to 100,000 shekels for the homeless, and the establishment of a dedicated administration in the Prime Minister's Office. Itamar Hayon, the project's founder, said the broad support proves there is a common goal, and now it must be turned into a work plan and budget.
