Before a decision: Maccabi Tel Aviv to move to host in Cyprus as early as the end of the month?

Maccabi Tel Aviv is close to moving its Euroleague home games to the "Spyros Kyprianou" arena in Limassol, Cyprus, instead of Belgrade. A decisive meeting will take place in the coming day with representatives of Euroleague, the club, and the Cyprus police. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is personally involved following a meeting with club chairman Shimon Mizrahi. The first game may take place on October 22 against Real Madrid.

Maccabi Tel Aviv is in advanced stages of moving its Euroleague home games from Belgrade to the "Spyros Kyprianou" arena in Limassol, Cyprus. A crucial oversight meeting will take place in the coming day with representatives of Euroleague, Maccabi Tel Aviv management, and the Cyprus police, which will determine whether the arena is officially approved. The police in Cyprus have examined security arrangements and given their preliminary approval. According to reports, the Euroleague management is expected to give official green light as early as tomorrow. The first game in the new arena may take place on October 22 against Real Madrid. Behind the move are direct contacts at the highest political level, including a personal meeting between club chairman Shimon Mizrahi and Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. The club is expected to host in Cyprus until February or April 2027, as long as a return to Israel is not possible. A significant security challenge arises from the fact that Maccabi Tel Aviv still needs to host three Turkish rivals this season: Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş, and Anadolu Efes.
