Netanyahu's candidate Michael Rabilio withdraws from State Comptroller race
Attorney Michael Rabilio, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's candidate for State Comptroller, announced he is withdrawing his candidacy after the High Court annulled the initial vote due to secrecy violations and following the 26th Knesset elections.
Attorney Michael Rabilio, who served as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's personal attorney, officially informed Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana of the withdrawal of his candidacy for State Comptroller. Rabilio was elected last June with a majority of 61 Knesset members, but the High Court of Justice annulled the vote due to a breach of its secrecy by coalition members who documented their vote. Despite the court's ruling, no new elections were held, and the High Court this week sharply criticized Ohana's conduct. Following the results of the elections for the 26th Knesset, in which the Netanyahu bloc lost its majority, Rabilio decided not to run again. The question of who will be the next State Comptroller remains open, as does whether the process will continue from the same point or start anew.
