Eyal Haib, a 37-year-old prisoner, was shot dead this morning (Friday) near the Nahal Tzalmon interchange on Highway 65, after being released from prison with permission on his way to work as part of a rehabilitation process. Haib, who was serving an 18-year sentence for manslaughter from 2014, is the 20th victim in the prolonged blood feud between two factions of the Hassarma family from the village of Bi'ina in the Galilee. According to details, Haib left prison this morning under the terms of his incarceration and walked to a bus stop, from which he was supposed to travel to his job at a factory in the north. A vehicle stopped near him and gunfire was opened at him. Haib was critically wounded and his death was declared at the scene. The report of the shooting was received at 06:41 at the MDA 101 emergency center in the Jordan region. Haib was previously convicted of the manslaughter of Ali Hassarma in 2014, as part of the blood feud between two factions of the Hassarma family. According to the indictment, Haib acted at the request of members of the Hassarma family, who suspected that Ali was involved in another murder, and agreed to carry out the act in exchange for 150,000 shekels. The murder raises fears of a renewed flare-up of the blood feud, after no additional murders attributed to it had been recorded since 2023.
