The Yemeni city of Taiz is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis as water supplies drop by half, and medicine, oxygen, and fuel in hospitals are nearly depleted, while the number of displaced people in Yemen has exceeded a quarter million since last July. The human rights organization Human Rights Watch warned of a sharp deterioration in humanitarian conditions in the city of Taiz in southwestern Yemen, stating that water supplies have decreased by 50%, while medicine, oxygen, and fuel in hospitals are nearly exhausted. The European Commission announced that the number of displaced in Yemen has risen to over a quarter million people. Yemeni organizations accused the Houthis of imposing a siege on the city, which has been under government control since the outbreak of the Yemeni conflict in 2015, and preventing humanitarian aid convoys from reaching the population and those affected by the war.
