Yaron Zelicha's dramatic threat against Highway 6 and Derech Eretz company

Prof. Yaron Zelicha, who aspires to become Minister of Finance, threatens Highway 6 concessionaire: the concession will not be extended in 2032 and investigative committees will be established to examine the amount of fines under competition laws. Zelicha claims that fines set 30 years ago are no longer relevant and that the company charges excessive prices while exploiting its monopoly position.

Prof. Yaron Zelicha, who aspires to serve as Minister of Finance after the elections on October 27, published today (Sunday) a direct threat against the Highway 6 concessionaire, Derech Eretz company. Zelicha claims that the fines imposed on drivers who are five minutes late in payment are "a scandal that has crossed all bounds," and that the company, as a regional monopoly, is subject to competition laws. He presented two main steps: first, at the end of the concession period in 2032, the company will not receive an extension even for one hour, and the highway will be returned to the public. Second, if the current collection format continues, he will establish an investigative committee to examine prices under competition laws and require the company to refund all money collected. His remarks come following a series of publications on C14 about fines and charges on Highway 6, which led to dozens of additional driver complaints. Zelicha signed off with a warning: "Consider yourselves warned, hold on tight, I'm coming soon."
