Worth billions: Elon Musk's gift, and how did Trump react?
Elon Musk announced that he will donate one share of SpaceX to every child in the US starting next year. President Trump welcomed the initiative and linked it to the "Trump Accounts" program. The value of the move is estimated at approximately $10.5 billion.
Elon Musk announced yesterday (Monday) a dramatic gift: granting a single share in SpaceX to every boy and girl in the US starting next year. In a post on X, which garnered over 30 million views, Musk hinted that this would be the first of many. There are approximately 72 million children under the age of 18 in the US. The price of a SpaceX share stands at about $147.5, and the total value of the move is estimated at $10.5 billion. This comes amid criticism Musk leveled against the company Anthropic. President Trump responded with an enthusiastic post, thanked Musk, and linked the shares to the "Trump Accounts" program—a new savings and investment program. The program has 70 million children registered, and includes additional donations, including $320 million from Gwynne Shotwell. An investment expert estimated that the value of a share in 18 years could stand at about $870.
